Ipakitine is a food supplement used to manage both dogs and cats with chronic kidney failure by reducing the absorption of phosphates. Ipakitine contains Chitosan and Calcium Carbonate, which act as phosphate binding agents and lower the absorption of phosphates restricted food. There is also a reduction in the absorption of some waste products that can affect normal kidney function.
Numerous studies have shown the benefits of phosphates reduction in dogs and cats suffering from kidney failure and it is now widely accepted that there is a direct link between the length and quality of life of a cat or dog with kidney failure and the amount of phosphates they get through their food.
Administration
1g/ 5kg body weight twice daily, mixed with food, for up to 6 months initially. One level scoop measures 1g of powder. It is recommended that a check up is performed every 6 months.
Dosage
Body weight of cat or dog:
- 3-5kg: 2 scoops per day
- 10kg: 4 scoops per day
- 15kg: 6 scoops per day
- 20kg: 8 scoops per day
